Tina Gifford
Biography
Tina (Nia) Gifford is a multimedia artist with a BTEC Diploma in art & design from The University of the Arts, London. She later pursued a B.A. (Hons.) Degree in Fine Art at Goldsmiths University of London where her chosen media were painting, photography, tapestry, weaving, knitting, digital art and silk painting.
Nia enjoys pushing the boundaries of her media. She enjoys the versatility of fabric as well as canvas, photography, tapestry and weaving. Colour plays a major role in her oeuvre as she endeavours to create moods and space within a space.
Nia’s work is inspired and informed by nature and spirituality, enriched by her travels and a plethora of experience and half associations. Colour and effect it has on us as humans plays a very important part in my work and has been woven into the fabric of our lives throughout the ages. Colour signals are also used by our bodies to send information from one cell to another. Colour and light have now found their way into medical cures.
Nia sees the development of her work as multifaceted. She would like it to be placed in homes, hospitals, the work place, to create backdrops and atmosphere, to be a vehicle for healing; in these and other ways to infuse and illuminate the lives of people.
